Ghost in the Shell – which has a $110 million budget – had a $7.6 million Friday while the animated film topped with $15.6 million.
Ghost in the Shell may star one of Hollywood’s best-known actors, but Scarlet Johansson has failed to bring high numbers of Americans to the cinema.
According to Deadline, the live-action adaptation will gross $20.3 million over the first weekend, falling way behind newcomer Boss Baby, which has an estimated $51.6 million three-day gross.
Boss Baby has a 49 per cent rating, but that’s relatively standard for family orientated films.
