The Hollywood Reporter brings word Golden Globe winner Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation, Luther, Avengers: Infinity War) is taking on the classic gothic romance The Hunchback of Notre Dame for Netflix where he is set to star, direct, and produce the modern re-telling.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame is being written by Michael Mitnick (The Current War, The Giver), adapting Victor Hugo’s classic French Romantic/gothic novel of the same name that was published in 1831.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame is arguably best known by the Disney animated adaptation that was released in 1996.
Fred Berger (La La Land) and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Midnight Special) will produce for Automatik, along with Elba and Green Door’s Ana Garanito.
