According to Deadline, On Become a God was written as a spec script by newcomer Matt Lutsky and Robert Funke, whose only feature cred is for the upcoming anthology horror The Labyrinth with James Franco.
(That lends its own strange vibe.)
Kirsten Dunst will also take on executive producing duties for On Becoming a God, along with the aforementioned George Clooney and Grant Heslov, whose Smokehouse Pictures is teaming with AMC Studios and TriStar Television for the project.
Another possibly recognizable name is Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos, who has signed on to direct; Lanthimos is the exciting and unconventional mind most recently behind the surreal rom-comThe Lobster, and his career lends an interesting aesthetic vibe.
