The story at the heart of ten-part Netflix series Making a Murderer took a shocking turn of events yesterday (12 August) when Brendan Dassey’s life sentence was unexpectedly overturned.
The Milwaukee-based federal judge who has deemed Dassey’s previous conviction as wrongful failed to alert both his family and Netflix to the updated ruling.
However, the series’ filmmakers – who are currently prepping a follow-up – were not present for the game-changing moment.
His uncle Steven Avery, who was also tried and convicted for Halbach’s murder, is said to be ‘thrilled’ to hear of the decision.
