Last weekend’s box office speaks to this with four very different Universal titles in the top 10, including the aforementioned musical Mamma Mia 2, Blumhouse’s action horror film The First Purge, the blockbuster Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Dwayne Johnson’s original action movie Skyscraper.
This is the eighth consecutive time that Universal has passed $1 billion at the domestic box office.
According to Deadline, the Mouse House is lapping the field on the year, currently sitting at $2.55 billion at the domestic box office.
Universal enters the three-comma club second in 2018, joining first place studio Disney.
