The masked gunman reportedly entered the movie theater Kinopolis in Viernheim, Germany, south of Frankfurt, around 3:00 p.m. local time with an ammunition belt and a weapon.
During a press conference on Thursday, the New York Police Department announced that in response to the shooting in Germany, units are being sent to theaters across New York City.
The gunman has been reportedly been shot and killed by the police, according to Peter Beuth, the state interior minister of Hesse, via the Atlantic.
The Guardian is reporting that German security services believe the gunman to be a “confused individual” rather than a terrorist.
