NBC has agreed to a script commitment for bestselling author Patricia Cornwell’s crime drama Red Stick from producer Matt Tolmach (Venom), according to Deadline.
Conceived by Cornwell, the series “follows Dr. Annie Dodge who is summoned from New York to her hometown of Baton Rouge, LA, after the sudden death of her father, the city’s beloved coroner.
Per the report, Dr. Annie Dodge mirrors one of Cornwell’s famous characters, that of Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a medical examiner featured in 24 of the author’s novels, dubbed the “Scarpetta series.”
Tolmach struck gold with the comic book film Venom, which will likely jump-start a new series thanks to a stellar box office haul that has already eclipsed $677 million worldwide.
