While London 2012 went for grandiose depictions of the Industrial Revolution in its opening ceremony, Rio 2016 will playfully show the darker side of life in its city by having supermodel Gisele Bundchen mugged as she walks down the catwalk.
400,000 hours have gone into preparation for the ceremony, which will take place in Rio on Friday night.
‘It will be a reinterpretation of Brazil,’ director Leonardo Caetano told the BBC of the ceremony, which has a considerably smaller budget than London’s.
After mugging Gisele, the thief will apparently be chased around the 78,000 seater stadium by fake police.
