The eighth entry in The Fast and the Furious franchise banked just enough to cross into triple digits, taking the number one spot with $100 million.
That was high enough to take second place in the franchise for domestic openings behindFurious 7’s $147 million debut in 2015.
It was only the third highest April opening, behind Furious 7 and The Jungle Book remake which banked $103 million last year.
If that holds, The Fate of the Furious looks to top out around $240 million, just shy of its $250 million production budget.
