Unfortunately, they didn’t show up in last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and we haven’t learned anything about what happened to these creatures in the aftermath of Return of the Jedi. Earlier today, Chuck Wendig’s new novel Aftermath: Life Debt was released, and an excerpt from io9 reveals new details about the Ewoks.
The Ewoks were first introduced in the 1983 classic Return of the Jedi, with these pint-sized characters playing a big role in the Rebel Alliance’ victory over the Empire.
A new Star Wars novel hit the shelves today, which answers another question fans have had for over 30 years: What happened to the Ewoks?
Earlier this year, a planetary scientist named Dave Minton theorized that none of the Ewoks should have been able to survive after the Death Star exploded at the end of Return of the Jedi. Naturally, George Lucas didn’t subscribe to that theory, with the Ewoks seen celebrating on Endor at the very end of Return of the Jedi. We’ll be sure to keep you posted with any updates on these Ewoks in future Star Wars books or movies.
