Sofia Coppola’s remake of The Beguiled is one of the most intriguing movies hitting theaters this year.
The Beguiled tells the story of a wounded Union soldier (Colin Farrell), who stumbles into the care of the women housed in a Southern boarding school.
The original, made in 1971 and starring Clint Eastwood, is based on an 1866 Southern Gothic novel by Thomas P. Cullinan.
It’s Coppola’s first straight-up “genre” fiction film, and it seems like the director has quite admirably married the gothic Antebellum setting with her trademark dreamy atmosphere.
